Whether you're just beginning to think about cooling centres or already working on a network of locations across the city, this European webinar on cooling centres is intended for all professionals dealing with increasing heat stress in cities.
The risks of extreme heat and heat domes are rising rapidly, in both Southern and Northern Europe. Southern cities like Barcelona are already responding effectively with extensive networks of hundreds of cooling centres. This is where residents can go to to cool down when the temperature in their own houses have become unbearable. Now also an increasing number of northern cities – where the general sense of urgency is not yet that high – has started programmes for cooling centres.
On 14th of January, we’ll take you on a virtual journey from Northern to Southern Europe and highlight how cities deal with cooling centres during heatwaves, each starting from their own context and needs.
- What does a cooling centre look like in Amsterdam or London?
- How do cities collaborate regionally in Southern Europe?
- How does a city like Barcelona set up and manage 400 cooling centres?
During the webinar, you’ll gain insight into:
- Risk analyses and stakeholder identification
- Temperature thresholds: at what temperature are cooling centres necessary? And what should the indoor temperature be?
- What facilities should be provided in a cooling shelter?
